ABOUT

est. MAY 2020

Rutland Memories began as a sanity saving project during the first covid lockdown way back in April 2020.

My name is Tony Lane, I’m primarily an independent filmmaker originally from Grimsby… a family emergency in 2018 inspired my family to move closer to home (we were based in Kent) and so one crazy day we got a map out & without looking we just put our finger on a place that was between my wife’s hometown & mine… we landed on OAKHAM and couldn’t ask for a better place to raise our 4 kids.

A few years prior to lockdown I was in New York filming with my dear friend IV Jones for our feature length documentary ‘Wheatus, You Might Die’, we needed a LOT of home videos digitised of Wheatus front man Brendan B. Brown and so during lockdown whilst trying to find something creative to save my sanity it occurred to me that no one in the local area was offering a tape digitising service.

So once it was safe to flyer drop in May 2020, we launched RUTLAND MEMORIES and the rest as they say is HISTORY!

A very brief ABOUT ME section…

Whilst at Newport University in 2004 (on the first night would you believe) I met my soul mate, the love of my life, and then a couple of years later we began courting (which went rather well) so we made it official in 2012.

Now… 13 years and 4 kids later, I’m now a part time filmmaker, part time digitiser & full time dad.

I’m somewhat of a perfectionist, so when I started Rutland Memories, it meant figuring out how to get the best possible quality from each digitisation, which has been an incredible learning curve over the years.

I’ve absolutely loved digitising RUTLAND’S memories, from learning how to make old technology work, being able to repair old broken tapes, but best of all being able to save someones wedding VHS from extreme mould.

If you have any questions, please do get in touch.

Time goes by so quickly, we really do have to live in the moment but preserve the past.
